Reflections: It’s all about the arts!
Reflections is an arts recognition and achievement program sponsored by the National PTA.
Reflections encourage students of all ages to:
- Unleash their creative talents and be recognized
- Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
- Experience the fun and joy of making art
- Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
- Receive positive recognition for their original works of art.
Participation is Easy, Exciting, and Empowering.
All Patterson Elementary students can participate!
Participation in the Reflections Program is organized by division. Student works are critiqued against others in the same division. This allows recognition and judging of artworks by appropriate developmental age and skill levels.
Patterson Elementary students will be able to participate in these divisions:
- Primary: Preschool-Grade 2 or up to age 7
- Intermediate: Grades 3-5 or ages 8-10
- Middle/Junior: Grades 6-8 or ages 11-13
- Special Artist: Non-Graded (2022-2023 Guidelines
High school students have their own divisions. That division covers Grades 9-12, or ages 14+. Please contact the student’s high school’s PTA for information on how the student can submit their entry or entries.
Students can express themselves via six art categories.
Students are invited to participate and submit original artwork in one of six areas:
- Dance Choreography (2022-2023 Rules
- Film Production (2022-2023 Rules
- Literature (2022-2023 Rules
- Music Composition (2022-2023 Rules
- Photography (2022-2023 Rules
- Visual Arts (2022-2023 Rules
Yes, students can submit more than one entry! For example, a student can create an entry for the Film Production category, and a second entry for the Literature category.

We Need Reflections Themes for 2024-2025!
Each year, the California State PTA invites students to submit themes for the annual Reflections Art Program that will inspire young artists to create original works.
California theme idea winners will be forwarded to National PTA for consideration. The student who submits the winning entry will receive a $100 prize.
